Author DVD movies in Linux with Tovid

tovidWhat if I wanted to make my own DVDs? like back then with that silly Sony software packed with my camcorder? Now I have only Ubuntu installed.

Here is the answer, TOVID! Small, easy to use, and for sure FREE!

Ok, let me first cut the none-sense…

You can get it from Sourceforge.

First some dependencies needed to be installed:

$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install mplayer mencoder mjpegtools ffmpeg python python-dev python-tk python-wxgtk2.6 python-wxtools python-imaging python-cairo imagemagick dvdauthor dvd+rw-tools vcdimager transcode sox normalize-audio txt2tags

Now install the .deb package:

$ sudo dpkg -i tovid_[version].deb

Fine, it should be ok now. 2 nice icons are installed in “Sound & Video” menu.

Note that this micro-howto is tested on Ubuntu 7 Feisty Fawn. Other systems may differ.

Also make sure you read the following 2 documents too.

Using the tovid GUI

Happy DVD making!
